On ZAWA's corruption..

“There is a lot of corruption in ZAWA and I would like to urge the government to intensify the investigations of corruption in that organisation. This is why the Nowegian government has stopped funding it. If it can fail to pay K50 million for the poor in my chiefdom, what can stop them to steal the funding they receive from the donors?”
Chief Chitungulu weighing in on Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) alleged corruption. There's also the additional claim that ZAWA owes the Community Resources Boards (CRBs) US$ 31,000 as concession fee. ZAWA characteristically denies the allegation reminding us that "ZAWA has always maintained transparency in administering community funds and kept its doors open for Community Resources Boards (CRBs) who wanted any further details". Perhaps a broader point is that many have lost faith in ZAWA for sometime (see 2005 Report on Parastatal Bodies) , but recent revelations have put more pressure on Government to get this particular house in order.
